So it appears my heim joint at the axle end of my trackbar has failed and is causing front end issues after only a little over a year.

Does this seem premature for a vehicle that has only been wheeled a few times? FuriousDz said:. Click to expand GCM 2 New member. But even those require upkeep on a regular basis. The really cheap heims require even more frequent upkeep. I can finish a heim joint in two pulls.

Just like going through the engine and gear box every race. If you put them on a daily driver get the kind with dust boots and grease zerks. They look a lot like Ford tie rods, come to think of it.

Road dirt and grit is the killer on the "pretty" kind you see on "Fad T's" but they are rarely driven cept to the local diner. If you use that kind, put safety washers outboard of the joint banjo so it can't go anywhere even if it pops off the sphere. DrJ , Oct 2, Joined: Sep 25, Posts: 5, Profile Page.

June 2nd, , PM Yep, spidertrax is what I'm thinking - they probably have them in stock, and probably know without looking which one fits the RE trackbars, and they're local-ish. The wobble started last Tuesday. I went to a grade-8 fine thread bolt at the axle end and that helped, but the wobble remained, just slightly diminished.

I identified the slack in the heim yesterday after work and am starting to notice it a lot more now. What's it like when a TJ drops the trackbar at highway speed? Anybody ever survive when that happens? I replace mine at least 2 years out no matter what. I had a Heim break off at the threads with a RK steering setup!

At least we were on the trail and not the highway. I tossed the RK crap and did my own steering. No problems as of yet. Ruffstuff specialties has good quality heims on the cheap. Check us out! I know heims are supposed to be self-cleaning, but I keep wanting to take it when it's perfectly clean and pack the whole moving area with grease - build a sort of squooshy boot around it.

Watching that smooth surface slide inside and outside the joint part just never looks sustainable to me. Last edited by ni0h; June 2nd, at PM. How is the bracket that the heim joint bolts to on your TJ?

Wonder if the holes have wallowed out over time? I had a professional drill it out for me. If that hole were to wallow, it would mean the bolt was too loose, as that's a compression joint, not a shear. Anyway, the looseness is absolutely between the ball and the race.
