How do nose piercings stay in

When worn, the small ball keeps it in place. Like a twist nose stud, they have a flush fit. These are best for healed piercings. While not for everybody, nose bones have a loyal fanbase that swears by the look and the comfort. Pin : This is simply a straight post, but this nose stud style is not meant to be worn as-is; a piercer will have to custom ben d your pin nose stud into an L-shape. These are perfect for those who don't quite fit in regular barbell lengths. L-Shape : L-shaped nose rings have a post that is bent at a degree angle.

This is also a favorite nose ring backing for those that find the screw twist difficult to use since the L-Shape is easier to insert into the piercing than the screw and more secure than the nose bone. Hoop Nose Rings : Nose ring hoops are quickly becoming the nostril jewelry of choice. They give you a different look than stud nose rings and tend to be more noticeable.

Captive bead rings are easy to insert, and the bead can be decorated for extra flair. You can also opt for a faux hoop, like the one shown, for the hoop aesthetic in an easy-to-insert format.

Seamless Ring Hoop Nose Rings: Unlike the hoop in the image above, seamless rings wrap all the way around the nostril. The thickness of the hoop will depend upon the gauge of your piercing; larger gauges will make for a bolder hoop look. Never pull the ends apart in a seamless ring.

Instead, twist up and down in opposite directions to open, then twist back into place. Faux Hoop Nose Rings : This style of nose ring gives you the look of a hoop with the easy insertion and comfort of an L-shape backing. Circular Barbells. Industrial Barbells. Monroe Rings. Not waiting long enough could result in irritation, a tear to the piercing channel, scarring, an increased risk of infection, or difficulty reinserting the jewelry.

Make sure you get pierced with jewelry you like and wait until it's fully healed to change it. The inner wall of a nostril piercing is made up of a mucus membrane, so this part of the piercing tends to close up very quickly without jewelry—even for a few short minutes. There are several options that make your piercing less visible but none that will make it invisible. We sell nostrils screws made of quartz glass that are incredibly discreet—and are a good option for surgery where metal is not allowed.

We also carry ends for press-fit posts made of matte-finish titanium and anodized in several different shades of copper to approximate different skin tones. This option is available for initial piercings, but then should not be changed for six months during healing. While these do not make your piercing disappear, they are much less noticeable than other options—especially if someone is not looking for your piercing—and they work in situations where wearing jewelry is not acceptable, such as work, family events, school, surgery, etc.

We typically use one of two types of jewelry for nostril piercings: a nostril screw or a press-fit barbell—though a ring is a third option. But if your piercing was done at Infinite, your jewelry is most likely a nostril screw or a press-fit barbell. Nostril screws are a long wire "post" with a set stone, ball, or disc on one end. This is bent into a modified spiral, or screw, to fit each person's individual nostril. To remove, grasp the end and give a slight twist as the jewelry comes out.

This depends on how thickly the interior of the nasal cavity is lined with mucous. During the final stage of healing, your body produces new skin cells to strengthen, line and seal the fistula. This happens about a year after the initial piercing. If you remove your jewelry prematurely before the fistula has developed, the hole may close in a matter of days.

When you remove the jewelry, your immune system acts fast to close that hole. This process is rapid for nose piercings because your nostrils are an essential entry point in your body.

You still see the puncture, but it seems to have closed up from the inside. How come?
